Human Behavioral Ecology

The evolutionary study of human behavior examines how we make decisions in response to ecological and cultural conditions, and how these strategies themselves change the environments we inhabit.

We run an integrative lab group that combines theoretical tools from human behavioral ecology and cultural evolution. Members use mixed methods, including mathematical modeling, ethnography and experiments. Students and faculty work at sites all over the world to explore issues in demography, social organization, cooperation, natural resource management, and identity, and how these are patterned ecologically, geographically and historically.
