Research Focus

My dissertation examines mobile money in Peru as analogous to a multi-sited design laboratory, committed to prototyping futures for money in a way that drives continuous innovation through trials, errors, and feedback loops. I show that these prototyping practices are mechanisms to encourage continuous investment from banks and collaborations from state regulators and multinational corporations. Each ‘failure’ is a valuable source of data about the ‘unbanked populations’ to better serve (and invent) them as the next frontier of financialization.
