June-July, 2010 Nasca, Peru Excavation Excavation at several pre-hispanic mines
Excavation at Mina Primavera
April-May, 2010 Owens Valley, CA Excavation of CA-INY-7448 Excavation of four house depressions.
Collection of sediment samples for paleobotanical analysis.
Collection of radiocarbon samples
August & September, 2007 CA-CCO-548 Excavation at Marsh Creek Site
  • Stabilize creek banks and remove archaeological deposits threatened by erosion
  • Excavate materials from midden to better understand economy during Windmiller period
  • Remove any human burials that are threatened by erosion
  • Laboratory analysis of materails will begin in October, 2007
June-July, 2007 Nasca, Peru Survey & Museum Studies
  • Collect pottery samples fordetailed chemical and mineralogical study of pigments from Early Nasca through Late Intermediate times
  • Survey side quebradas to locate additional prehispanic mines and mining base camps
  • Collect obsidian sample to augment obsidian hydration sample and to conduct additional sourcing

Summer, 2006 Nasca, Peru Participate in Proyecto Nasca Temprano
  • Excavations of Archaic component at site of Upanca
  • Test excavations at La Ballena, a mining base camp in Quebrada Pongo
  • Surface collection of pottery and obsidian samples at target sites for preliminary pigment analysis, luminescence dating, and obsidian hydration
  • Visit Mina Primavera in Ingenio Valley to follow up test excavations at a prehispanic hematite mine and to examine surrounding area.
