As the Chief Administrative Officer of the “Green Cluster” in the Division of Social Sciences, Erum A. Syed provides leadership and oversight for the administration of the extensive business affairs of the Departments of Anthropology and Sociology. Working closely with the chairs of the departments and with colleagues in the DSS Dean’s Office, Syed executes policy and strategic direction of the Cluster. Syed organizes, manages, and directs long-range and short-range plans in the areas of finance, academic and staff personnel, instruction, equipment/space administration, policy and procedure development and research. Syed joined the Division of Social Sciences at University of California, Davis in May 2013. Before joining the DSS staff at UC Davis, Syed served as Assistant Director of the University Center for Human Values at Princeton University. Syed has also served in financial and management positions at Merrill Lynch, the Bureau of Engineering in Los Angeles, and the UCLA School of Law. Syed holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, with an emphasis in Finance, from University of Colorado at Denver.
